How we calculate
amount × emission factor = kg CO2e
Home energy is split by the people in your household.
- ETKB
- Electricity in Türkiye; the 9.2% transmission and distribution losses are shown on a separate line.
- Ember
- Electricity in other countries. Without a country value, a regional or world average, labeled "assumption".
- Defra (DESNZ)
- Other categories, plus IPCC and other public official and scientific sources.
Results are indicative. carbometria results are estimates based on what you tell us and on average emission factors; they are not measurements. They have not been verified by an independent body and are not certified. For some categories there is no data specific to your country, so averages from other countries or assumptions are used. Results are for personal information and awareness only; they may not be used for corporate reporting, carbon offsetting, carbon credits or environmental claims about products and services.
All assumptions
- Source names: ETKB is the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, and DESNZ is the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, whose greenhouse gas conversion factors are also known as the Defra conversion factors.
- Factor year: The factor for the year of the entry is used, otherwise the nearest earlier year (otherwise a later year), and the result states when a different year was used. The factor used and its version are stored; a new factor version does not change your past results unless you ask for it.
- Electricity outside Türkiye: Ember data is based on generation, does not fully reflect imports and exports, and does not include transmission and distribution losses. The Türkiye factor is not used and no supply chain emissions are added on top. The level used is stated in the result.
- Global warming potential (GWP): the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) for refrigerants; for other factors, the basis of their own source (DESNZ mostly AR5, Ember a methane GWP of 21).
- Natural gas: outside Türkiye, Türkiye's gas composition is assumed and the result is flagged. The gas supply chain share uses UK (Defra) data.
- Flights: representative distances are used for each distance group. High-altitude effects (RF) are included in the factors. For all flights except domestic flights of users living in the UK, Defra's international non-UK average is used; it may be low for short flights.
- Electric car: when only distance is entered, 0.21 kWh/km is assumed (Weiss et al. 2024) and calculated with your country's electricity factor. Home charging is counted in your home electricity, not again.
- Car fuel: outside the UK, with no country biofuel blend data, diesel and petrol litres are calculated as 100% mineral fuel; in the UK, Defra's average UK biofuel blend is used.
- Public transport and water: bus, train, taxi and water use UK (Defra) factors; metro and tram are UK sourced approximate values.
- Air conditioning: 1.0 kg of refrigerant per unit and a 1% yearly leak rate are assumed; this is a low assumption.
- Hotels: Defra country factors are used; these factors are 2022 data.
- Diet: a global estimate based on Scarborough et al. 2023, Nature Food (CC BY 4.0), not country specific.
- Not calculated yet: spending-based items, durable products, parcels, household waste, hotel stays in countries not on the list, ferries and plug-in hybrid use entered as distance. Your answer is kept; no result is shown and it is not counted as zero.
Electricity emissions intensity data: Ember, Yearly Electricity Data (2026), licensed under CC BY 4.0, ember-energy.org. Choosing the latest data year up to 2024 for each country, and using a regional or world average for countries without an Ember value, is our own processing.
UK DESNZ conversion factors: contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

Frequently asked questions
Does carbometria cost anything?
No, it is free. There are no in-app purchases and no ads. Points and badges you earn from tasks have no monetary value.
Who can use it?
carbometria is for users aged 13 and over. We have also written a plain-language summary for 13 to 17 year olds: Privacy Summary for Teens
Can I use it outside Türkiye?
Yes. carbometria is available in English and Turkish wherever the App Store and Google Play offer it. When you first open it, you choose your country of residence, your distance unit (kilometers or miles) and your spending currency.
For electricity outside Türkiye, Ember's yearly lifecycle emissions intensity is used instead of the Türkiye factor: the country value, otherwise the regional average, otherwise the world average. The result states the level used and is labeled "assumption" when a regional or world average is used.
Do you use my location?
No. We do not access your device location; you enter distances yourself. In the app stores' privacy labels, the country you select, the hotel country and your time zone appear as "approximate location", but your device's location is still never accessed.
How accurate are the results?
Results are indicative estimates based on the information you enter and on average emission factors, so they are only as accurate as that information.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Profile > Delete account, or write to info@enerwisetech.com from your registered email address. Details: Delete your account
